Indwell is committed to sustainable wood design-builds and handcrafted goods. Most products are sourced from downed trees in Chadds Ford, PA. Other builds may include wood that is either reclaimed or ethically sourced from a local lumber yard. Materials are collected locally, milled or disassembled in-house, and treated/finished with environmentally conscious finishes.
The owner, Melanie, has a Bachelor of Architecture and a Master of Science in Sustainable Design. She holds LEED Green Associate and NABCEP Associate credentials. She worked in architecture firms for several years, followed by teaching architectural and sustainability courses at local colleges.
In 2014, Melanie built a dining table for her home utilizing rudimentary tools in a tiny shed devoid of electrical power. This became a hobby and Indwell was formed as friends and family started requesting custom builds. Today, she has a larger workshop in Chadds Ford, PA, and has acquired various equipment and tools. The business is independently run, aside from occasional assistance from family and friends.
